Synthesizer and MIDI Keyboard Reviews
Synth, arranger or controller?
Synthesizers generate their own sounds and are built for shaping tone with knobs and sliders. Arranger keyboards include hundreds of instrument voices and auto-accompaniment styles — great for learning and playing songs. MIDI controllers make no sound on their own: they control virtual instruments in a computer or tablet and are the cheapest way into music production.
Check the number and size of keys (full-size vs mini), whether keys are velocity-sensitive, and the connections you need — USB, MIDI DIN, CV/Gate or audio outputs.
