Digital Piano Reviews
What makes a good digital piano
- Key action. Look for 88 fully weighted, graded hammer-action keys if you want skills that transfer to an acoustic piano. This matters more than the number of sounds.
- Piano sound and polyphony. 128-note polyphony or more avoids notes cutting off when you use the sustain pedal.
- Speakers and headphones. Portable models have small speakers; two headphone outputs are handy for lessons and late-night practice.
- Pedals. Most portable pianos ship with a basic footswitch. A proper sustain pedal (or a three-pedal unit) is a worthwhile upgrade.
- Connectivity. USB-MIDI or Bluetooth MIDI lets you use learning apps and recording software.
