The DTX402K is Yamaha's entry-level electronic kit. It focuses on learning: a simple module, ten structured training functions and free apps that turn practice into a series of small goals.
Kit summary
| Module | DTX402 with 10 drum kits (customisable via app) |
| Pads | Rubber pads for snare and toms |
| Kick | Beaterless kick pedal unit |
| Cymbals | Hi-hat, crash and ride pads, hi-hat controller |
| Training | 10 training functions with scoring |
| Connections | USB to Host (MIDI and audio), headphones, aux in |
Why it's good for learning
The training functions cover timing, fills and speed, and score your performance — very motivating for children and adults alike. The DTX402 Touch app makes it easy to edit kits and use training functions from a phone or tablet.
Noise
The beaterless kick unit produces much less thump than a pedal hitting a pad, which reduces noise transmitted through floors.
Limitations
- Rubber pads feel harder and less natural than mesh.
- Limited expandability compared with mid-range kits.
Verdict
A quiet, beginner-friendly kit with strong practice tools. If mesh feel matters, look at the Alesis Nitro Max or Roland TD-07KV.
