Martin built some of the most prized ukuleles of the 20th century, and the S1 Uke is its accessible, all-solid-wood soprano. It's a significant step up in tone from laminate beginner ukuleles while staying far below the price of vintage or custom instruments.

Why solid wood matters on a ukulele
A small body has to make the most of every vibration. Solid mahogany resonates more freely than laminate, producing a warmer, sweeter and more complex sound with better sustain. The difference is very audible when you play single-note melodies.
Care
Solid-wood instruments are more sensitive to humidity and temperature changes. Keep it in its bag when not in use and avoid leaving it in hot cars or next to heaters.
Verdict
An excellent "forever" soprano ukulele for players who have caught the bug. If you prefer a larger instrument, look at concert models such as the Cordoba 15CM.
