Lanikai's LU-21 series has been a mainstay of school music rooms and beginner classes for years. The LU-21C is the concert-size version: a sturdy, no-frills uke that stays in tune and survives everyday handling.
Key specs
- Size: concert
- Body: nato (laminate)
- Fingerboard: rosewood
- Strings: Aquila
- Finish: satin
Strengths
Laminate nato is tough and resists humidity changes better than solid wood — a real advantage for classrooms, travel and beginners who don't want to worry about care. The satin finish feels natural and the concert neck is comfortable for adult hands.
Limitations
The tone is pleasant and balanced but not especially rich or loud. Players who start performing will eventually want a solid-top instrument.
LU-21C vs Cordoba 15CM
Both are excellent first concert ukes at a similar price. The Cordoba usually sounds a touch warmer thanks to mahogany; the Lanikai is a slightly more rugged, practical choice. Pick on looks and feel — both will serve a beginner well. See also: Cordoba 15CM review.
